What’s Lemon Squeeze about?
Lemon Squeeze follows three childhood besties, now in their 30s, who meet in Los Angeles for what should be a getaway weekend. Travis, Phillip and Adrian haven’t hung out together in over a decade and this reunion is long overdue. Travis is juggling what to do next with his long time partner Garrett. Phillip’s film about love is premiering over the weekend although he’s never been in a relationship. Adrian’s finally turning 30 and still doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life. Over partying, board games and brunch, these men face their fears of adulting while exploring the memories and evolution of friendship.
Why I’m making Lemon Squeeze?
Because my friends have made such an impact to my development as a person and artist, I wanted to document male friendships with a distinct lens on queer relationships of color. With the lack of diverse images, Lemon Squeeze specifically showcases some of the complexities that exist within that of Black and Latino Men.
How will Lemon Squeeze look?
Aesthetically, Lemon Squeeze will aim to maintain the realism that defines, shapes, and colors the whirlwind weekend of these friends. The camera will feel like a fly on the wall as there will be long, uninterrupted shots that change in perspective and movement that signal where the attention and emotions are. The goal is to make viewers forget they are watching a film and are rather living alongside the group. Without embellishment, Lemon Squeeze will capture authentic texture of these friends with on-location shooting in Los Angeles, a less stylized lighting using mostly natural light, and an invisible style of editing. The color pallet is vibrant, breezy and earthy to channel the SoCal atmosphere.
While these friends share similar experiences, each character has a specific background and unique personality which will be expressed through their traits, costuming and hair styling.
